“We were very impressed with Mitch Eliott as a builder/carpenter and as a person - in fact in all ways. His work is of a very high standard, as are his ethics and his professional approach to his work. Added to that he was a delight to have around - AND he kept us informed when he would or could not be on the job - unusual in this age. We would have no hesitation in recommending him.” - Carolyn and David

“I wanted it to be a uniquely Australian house that represented the bush. Because this is such a strong wool growing area, the idea of the woolshed structure came to mind.” - Katrina Blomfield, Eagle Ridge

“When renovating our lounge room, we couldn’t have made a better choice than Creative Carpentry and Construction. Throughout the whole process, Mitch displayed the perfect combination of professionalism and hands on workmanship. From our initial consultation to the delivery of a beautiful room, Mitch took the time to listen to our ideas and worked to bring them to life. Combined with his passion for quality workmanship, the final result was a superior room that we couldn’t be happier with and cannot fault.” - Lesley and David Lamb

Brief: Extremely cold climate, joining of two sections of the same house together via a link room (kids playroom), insulate and re-line old weatherboard addition to improve comfort. Joining the two roof pitches together to achieve a seamless connection was a challenge.

Features: Fully insulated floor, ceiling and walls, double glazed windows to new section and to previously renovated area to improve thermal comfort. Tallowwood flooring to new area and timber bi-fold doors added between rooms. Rusticated weatherboards to match existing.

Brief: Take advantage of view and northern exposure.

Facts: Old weatherboard cottage, had at least three extensions done to it over its time none of which helped the fact that it's cold, as it's located in Walcha.

Features: This project started as an extension/renovation, and ended up becoming a knock down/rebuild, with the house taken back to floor level with three walls left! The project took 18 months to complete. The house had very good solar features with ample north facing glass as well as clear sheeting over the verandahs to allow light in through the high light windows. All the windows are double glazed, and the house is excellently insulated.

Brief: The house site is situated on the top of a ridge overlooking the rugged New England ranges with 70-80km views to the north-east. Clients wanted to design a house which represented both the Australian country life and the local wool growing area. They also wanted to design a house which took advantage of the million dollar views so the concept of a woolshed-style house was born with its large central area and a skillion wing attached to each side so the views can be seen from every main room in the house including all the bedrooms. The other important factor in the design (including the interior design) was the idea to use as much old recycled timber as possible from the local area as well as to make the house thermally efficient and solar passive due to very cold winters. The interior was intended to create a welcoming feeling of country, warmth and comfort. Building materials were chosen that were compatible with the theme and the surrounding landscape.
